Almeda Baranowski, a resident at Garden Terrace at Overland Park, Kansas, celebrated her 100th birthday at the facility on March 3, 2019.
Baranowski was adorned with a tiara and was surrounded by her family, including her 93-year-old baby sister, who flew in from Arizona for the occasion. Associates decorated the room with 100 paper hearts, each one with a reason why they love her written on it. They also presented her with a letter from Beecher Hunter, Life Care president, and a blanket to help keep her warm.
Born on a farm in Merrill, Michigan, on March 3, 1919, Baranowski had no running water at her home until she was 18. She and her husband, Ted Baranowski, had three sons: Ted, Craig and Barry. She also worked as a secretary at the Veterans Affairs Hospital.
When Baranowski was asked for her secret to longevity, she answered, “Work hard, and be nice to people.”
Baranowski now has three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
